Mention any induction, permit, insurance or documentation requirements before booking. Specialist industrial, process-water or fire-system work must be specifically discussed; a general commercial enquiry does not confirm capability for every system.

Discuss the affected system, access arrangements, survey price and deliverables. Confirm attendance with the contractor rather than assuming an immediate or out-of-hours visit.

Assess the findings
The contractor selects tests for the property and explains the findings and any uncertainty. Water isolation or opening-up may be needed; agree how this will be handled with the site team.
03 / Act
Plan the repairs
Independent engineers usually fix leaks and carry out repairs. Agree the repair scope, any further access, testing and reinstatement, including the cost and programme of work.
Choose the investigation to suit the problem
For concealed pipework, specialist methods can help reduce unnecessary opening-up. They do not guarantee a damage-free investigation or that operations can continue without interruption.
Non-destructive leak detectionIf the suspected leak is beneath a yard, car park or other external surface, mention available pipe information and known buried services. Excavation and surface reinstatement need an agreed scope.
Underground leak detectionAgree the records your business needs
Tell the contractor who needs the findings: for example, your facilities team, landlord or insurer. Agree the written report, photographs and repair records required, and whether they are included in the quote.
If you intend to claim, check your insurer’s requirements and cover for the specific incident. For a metered water-bill query, ask NI Water what evidence it requires and whether any allowance applies. Detection and repair do not guarantee reimbursement.

Can the site stay open during testing?
That depends on the investigation and site conditions. Discuss water isolation, access and affected operations before booking. Uninterrupted operation cannot be guaranteed.
Can you work outside our opening hours?
Tell us your preferred access times. Any out-of-hours attendance and associated costs must be confirmed with the contractor.
Do higher meter readings prove a leak?
No. Explain the usage change and any known changes on site. The investigation should consider the available information rather than assume a particular fault.
Who authorises and pays for the work?
Identify the person authorised to agree the survey and any additional work. You contract with and pay the independent contractor directly. NI Leak Detection receives no commission for the introduction.
